Moving away made me question whether I was proud of where I was from. I had this sense of a love/ hate relationship with my home. When people asked me why I identified as Irish I had difficulty in verbalising how I felt about my identity and realised that I hadn’t given it a huge amount of thought. I had just allowed the cliched Irishness to seep in and I was comfortable in allowing it to be apart of me and go unchallenged. However when I moved away to London, that detachment allowed me a sense of objectivity and I began to dissect my perceived Irishness and expose it as mock and a smokescreen to conceal untold horrors.
The Irish preoccupation with soil and the land, ownership of it, separation from it is almost spiritual in its intensity. Irish people talk of the ‘oneness’ they feel when working with soil. I don’t feel that. I use soil and clay in my work in an attempt to unravel the mythology and passion it engenders in its people.

I paint from images so send me a picture of what you’d like painted and I can let you know if it’s doable!
Sexualisation of a Loaf of Bread was my first solo exhibition, which was held in the Flying Dutchman in Camberwell.
People and things are randomly sexualised and desexualised constantly by advertisers and media depending on how we want to be perceived. Manipulation of sex interests me, can anything be sexualised? Can a painting be sexualised, can a loaf of bread be sexualised? What can how people go about sexualising a loaf of bread tell us about their views, feelings and approaches to sex. I also looked at the cosmetics industry and how it constantly manipulates female insecurity.
